Oxford to Clifton Hampton

Crossing the road on Osney Bridge and bearing left by the handsome cottages on the river, I'm envious of anyone lucky enough to call this stretch home. Lovely, firm, clear, dry pathway ahead and benches here and there. The cyclists are soon more in evidence and require a degree of alertness or else be surprised by their often brisk approach!

Any venturing into Grandpoint Nature Reserve is limited to glances towards its paths and trees. A few rowers glide by like mechanical toys and I spot some homely boat houses. Under the B4495 that spans the river some graffiti reads: 'Got Democracy? Join Amnesty.'

A delightful, small bridge at Iffley

Lock is just asking to be

photographed! Sandford weir

further ahead is reputed to be the

largest on the Thames; doesn't

seem quite as impressive as I

imagined it to be.The Kings Arms

Pub looks an appealing spot and

appears to be doing a brisk trade!

I regret not stopping awhile!

Picturesque bridge at Iffley Lock

Crossing the lower lock gates at Abingdon Lock, I passed a long line of moored boats. From the dusky-red-bricked Clifton Hampton Bridge, I took a brief walk into the village; pretty cottages, thatched rooves and the famed Barley Mow (reputedly best known pub on the Thames). The church sat above its many steps almost lures me to have an opportune peak; however, I opt to move on.
